With Istanbul’s third airport at 80% completion as of February, 2018 and a full opening due by October, 2018, what makes this new airport special?

A bit of background – Istanbul’s original Ataturk airport has been revamped several times, and is currently the 3rd busiest airport in continental Europe.  However, the demand for international air traffic has exceeded both Ataturk International and the Asian-based Sabiha Gokcen, both of which cannot safely expand due to urban sprawl and high airway traffic demand.

The new airport for Istanbul will be situated west of the charming suburb of Arnavutkoy (Albanian village) on the northwestern end of the Bosphorus.  Metro access and public transportation have been taken into account with the new location, with easy access to the city centre.  After October 2018 when the new airport is fully functional, the IATA code for Istanbul (IST) will be transferred and the existing Ataturk airport will be shut down.

What does this mean to the property investor in Turkey?  It means that Istanbul’s current hub for Europe will have even more increased capacity, serving both domestic and international traffic.  It means a relief from the traffic congestion of central Istanbul, and the modern hub brings all of the modern conveniences and necessities for wi-fi, resting, transportation and ease of transit that are expected in 2018.

Luxury Property Turkey is excited that this new, modern facility will bring Turkey from number 3 to number 1 as a international, European and Near Eastern hub for travelers and domestic and international investors.
